(96) Al-Alaq

With the name of Allah, the Impartial, the Compassionate.

(96) Al-Alaq

This Surath got the name “Al-Alaq (the Clinging Clot)” from the second verse, which says that “He created mankind from the Clinging Clot”. The verses first to the fifth of this Surath are the first revealed verses to Messenger Muhammad, and from verses six to nineteen are revealed in the early period of Messenger’s Meccan life, criticizing Abujahil when he prevented Messenger from performing prostration at Masjidul Haram.

This Surath begins commanding to read in the name of the Lord who created mankind from a congealed Clot, and who taught mankind what he doesn’t know, and who taught writing with the pen. This Surath ends by commanding the believers that there should not be any force obstructing them from doing prostration of recitation before their Lord, in which the servant gets the closest to His Lord as taught by the Lord through His Messenger.
