(92) Al-Lail

This Surath got its name “Al-Lail (the Night)” from the first verse, which says, “By the Night when it covers with darkness.” This Surath, containing twenty-one verses, was revealed in the early Meccan period of the Messenger, together with Surath Ash-Shams. After swearing by the Night that covers with darkness, the Day that spreads its brightness, and the creation of Male and Female, it is told that indeed, human efforts are different. Along with the glad tidings that whether Male or Female, whoever lives testifying Adhikr – the Best – all his affairs will be made easy to him, and he will return to his Lord pleased by His Lord; it is warned that whoever turns back from the aim of life by rejecting Adhikr, all his affairs will be made difficult, and such unluckiest ones will be roasted in the Fire.
