(87) Al-A’Alaa

With the name of Allah, the Impartial, the Compassionate.

(87) Al-A’Alaa

This Surath got the name “Al-A’alaa (the Highest)” from the first verse, which says “You glorify the name of your Lord, the Highest”. This was revealed in the early period of Messenger’s Maccan life. Messenger had occasionally recited this Surath, which is one of the Suraths beginning by glorifying Allah, and Al-Ghashiya, the next Surath, in the congregational prayer conducted on Fridays. The name of the Lord who created, formed, and fixed the number of everyone and everything in the universe is to be only glorified. This Surath informs that only those who purified themselves with the Three Time Knowledge Adhikr will become triumphant. They are those who prefer the Hereafter to this worldly life in all their affairs. Even after being reminded with Adhikr, whoever prefers this worldly life over the Hereafter will be roasted in the Fire, in which they will never die nor live. This Surath, containing 19 verses, ends by saying that what is mentioned in the Scriptures given to Ibrahim and Moses is the same thing.
