(83) Al-Muthwaffifeen
This Surath is named Al-Muthwaffifeen (those who reduce in Weight and Measurement) from the first verse, which says that those who reduce in weight and measurement have the “Vaile Valley.” This Surath was revealed in the early period of the Messenger’s Meccan life. It warns that those who manipulate weight and measurement are rejecting the Day of Judgement, and the ledger of such Fujjar is in the “Sijjeen” of Hell. It also warns the Fujjar that an unseen curtain will be placed between Allah and the Fujjar so that they cannot see Him on the Day of Judgement, and that they will be roasted in Hades, which they have been rejecting in this world.
After stating that the ledger of the virtuous who live here under the light of Adhikr is in the “Illiyyeen” of Paradise, this Surath mentions the pleasures they will experience in Paradise. In fact, the Fujjar Mujirims, when they see the believer, ridicule him as a strayed person. This Surath, containing 36 verses, ends with a question: “Will these Kuffar be rewarded with anything except what they had been doing?”
