(78) An-Naba'

This Surah is named An-Naba’—“The News” from the second verse, which says “About that great News.” It was revealed in the early period of the Messenger’s Meccan life. After mentioning the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the making of conveniences for producing herbs and corn needed for mankind, it warns that the Day of Decision—whose term is already fixed—will surely happen. On the Day it happens, the structure of the universe will be changed, and Hellfire will be given as an ambushing abode to the transgressors. They will receive it because they were not expecting the reckoning and were rejecting the verses one after another. It also explains the blessed rewards the heedful will receive in Paradise. This Surah, containing 40 verses, ends by warning that on that Day, Angel Jibreel and the Angels will be standing in rows; none can utter any word except those who utilized and testified the Truth. When each individual sees what he/she sent ahead in this world for the Hereafter, the disbeliever will wail: “Woe to me! If I were mere soil.”
