Indeed Your Lord knows indeed you and among those who are with you are standing for prayer two third of the night, or half of it or one third of it, and Allah is determining the measure of night and day; He knows that you are unable to count it, then He has turned upon you, so you read from the Reading what is easy to you, He knows some of you are patients, and some of you are travelling in the earth seeking the favours of Allah, and some others are fighting in the way of Allah, so you read what is easy from the Reading, and you steadfast the prayer, you give welfare tax, and you give a handsome loan to Allah, whatever you send ahead for your soul from the Best, you will find it with Allah, and it will be the best and greatest reward, you seek forgiveness to Allah, indeed Allah is the oft forgiving, the Merciful.
It is told in this verse that Allah knows Messenger and some of his companions who are engaged in different works performing prayer for two third of the night or one third of the night as commanded to Messenger through verses 2-4 of this Surah. So in that period when there was no access to know the time, it was enough to perform prayer by calculating the time as possible. It is also told that Allah knows there are patients and travellers among you, and so it is enough to perform prayer by reading what is possible from the Book. Since the war is commanded in the second year of the Hijra in Messenger’s Medina life, and it is told that some others are fighting in the way of Allah, this verse gives intimation for the prayer at the time of war. This verse is also a proof for that Lord’s Book doesn’t say anything in a particular order.
In the early period verses containing the laws and suggestions for codifying a lifeway under the light of Adhikr was revealed. As explained in verse 5: 3, the revelation of verse was completed by the farewell pilgrimage of Messenger Muhammed. Since this is the time for the arrival of Antichrist, one of the ten crucial signs of Dooms Day as explained in verse 6: 158, about to happen, and there is no any group of believers anywhere in the world, the odd believer should try to propagate Adhikr which is the Light to produce the mankind from the darkness to the light as well as the Balance and Trust to keep the universe in its equilibrium aiming to eradicate bloodshed, terrorism, communalism, racism, selfishness, etc. and thereby to form the harmony of mankind and to have a peaceful and tranquil life. See explanation 29: 45; 4: 15-18; and 71: 18.
