(70) Al-Ma’aarij

This Surah got the name Al-Ma’arij-The Ascending Staircases-from the third verse saying ‘the owner of the staircases’. This Surah containing 44 verses was revealed during the early period of Messenger’s Maccan life.
This Surah warns the disbelievers who do not utilize Adhikr-the Staircases to ascend to Allah-as the Ticket to the Paradise that the Day of Judgement, the duration of which is fifty thousand years, is going to happen shortly. On that Day the disbelievers will be ready to give as ransom even their children, spouses, brothers, and even whatever they have, but it will not be accepted from them. It is mentioned in this Surah about the prayer of the prospering believers. This Surah ends by warning the disbelievers who are considering their life as ridiculing and amusement that on the Day which is promised to them, they all will be rushing forward from their graves as if they are racing towards a goal post.
