(68) Al-Qalam

This Surah got the name Al Qalam-The Pen-from the first verse which says “By the pen and what they are writing”. This Surah was revealed during the early period of Messenger’s Maccan life. It consoles the Messenger and the believers of every period that by the Mercy of your Lord you are not a Jinn affected man, instead you are one having a great character. The Messenger and the believers are commanded not to obey any defiant adulterer who are spreading the illusion among the mankind that Adhikr is the fable story of ancestors and it can’t be followed nowadays. By quoting an event of a trial Allah made on a people who tried to reap their cultivation by themselves for not to give any wage for the indigent laborers, this Surah warns that punishment will be affected both in this world and in the Hereafter upon those who are involved in such injustices.
This Surah warns that the Fujjar, when they will be called to do single prostration on the Day of Judgement, they can’t do it since they were not ready to do it from this world when they were safe here. This Surah commands the Messenger and believers that Adhikr which is the Book of Lord Allah is the Wisdom, and so should be patient until Its revelation is completed. This Surah containing 52 verses ends reminding the believer that when he teaches Adhikr which is the Reminder to the entire mankind in their heart’s language, the disbelievers of all period stare at the teacher as if he will be melted by disbeliever’s stare, and commanding the believer to go on with his teaching patiently.
