With the name of Allah, the Impartial, the Compassionate.
(61) Aswaff
This Surath got the name Aswaff (the Solid Line) from the fourth verse, which says, “Indeed, Allah loves those who are fighting in the way of Him as a solid line just like a concrete wall.” Since this Surath mentions ‘Hawariyyeen’ in the fourteenth verse, it also has the name ‘Al-Hawariyyoon’. It was revealed during the third year of Hijra during the Messenger’s life in Medina. This Surath teaches the believers that while whatever is in the heavens and the earth is glorifying Lord Allah, the believers should be doing whatever is said and should be glorifying Allah alone. It also warns that any people who don’t obey Messengers, just like the people of Moses were, Allah doesn’t guide such people. This Surath also says that even though Jesus—the son of Maryam—had informed the Glad Tidings that there will come a Messenger after me named ‘Ahmad’, when that Messenger—Muhammad—came to them with clear Evidence, they rejected and defied him, saying that it was a manifest sorcery. This Surath also warns that Allah will spread out Adhikr—the Light of Allah—through the believers even though the hypocrites and their followers hate it much. This Surath, containing 14 verses, ends by reminding the believers to help Allah by propagating Adhikr, just like the Hawariyyeen undertook and implemented the mission of Jesus.
