ADHIKR

This Surath got the name Al-Hadeed (the Iron) from the 25th verse, which says, “We also sent down the Iron.” This was revealed during the Messenger’s Medina life in the fifth year of Hijra. This is one of the seven Suras named ‘Musabihath’ which starts by glorifying the Lord. It is told in this Surath that whatever is in the heavens and earth glorifies Allah, who is the First and the Last, the Apparent and the Hidden, the Three-Time Knower and the Almighty, the Exalted and the Wise. He, the One who has the dominion of the universe, is with mankind wherever they are. He, the One who embeds the night into the day and the day into the night, knows the status of the chests. By reminding the believers that those who spend wealth and suffer sacrifice at the time of crisis and those who spend wealth and suffer sacrifice at the time of peace won’t be equal near Allah, this Surath commands the believers to spend their wealth for propagating Adhikr to fulfill the aim of life. This Surath warns of the pathetic scene of the hypocrites begging the believers for Light in the Hereafter. It teaches the believers that they shouldn’t be like those who were given the Book before by becoming heart-hardened towards the Lord’s Book—Adhikr—and reminds them that whoever is testifying Adhikr, such are the victors, and those who are hiding and rejecting Adhikr are the inmates of Hades. All Messengers have been deputed in different periods with Adhikr, which is the Evidence and Balance of Justice, to establish Justice among mankind. This Surath teaches that those who utilize the Guidance Adhikr after receiving It are the guided, and those who do not utilize It after receiving It are the transgressors. Along with teaching that monasticism was not taught by Jesus, whoever doesn’t follow it as it should be followed is a transgressor. This Surath, containing 29 verses, ends by declaring that none has a monopoly upon Adhikr, which is the Bounty of the Lord of the universe for entire worlds, and so anyone can learn It by praying to the Lord and by utilizing It.
