(54) Al Qamar

With the name of Allah, the Impartial, the Compassionate.

(54) Al Qamar

This Surath got the name ‘Al-Qamar (the Moon)’ from the first verse ‘The Moon split asunder’. It was revealed in the last part of the middle period of the Messenger’s Meccan life. This Surath warns that even though the disbelievers are shown the Moon as split asunder, being the sign from Lord Allah, they won’t be ready to accept the Truth. On the day the Last Hour happens, the disbelievers will say that this is a hard Day. This Surath warns by quoting the history of people who lived before, such as the people of Noah, Aad, Thamood, Looth, etc., who had rejected the warners deputed to them, saying, "An odd liar," and as a consequence, they were affected with punishment.

The verses of this Surath inform that Adhikr, which is the Message of Lord Allah to His entire creatures, is made very easy to understand with the heart, and thus warns to learn a lesson from the history of former generations who had been destroyed. It also warns that the Mujirims who don’t utilize Adhikr after receiving It are in a state of straying and in madness, and that they will be dragged into Hell on their faces. This Surath, containing 55 verses, ends by giving Glad Tidings that since the forerunners who testify Adhikr are preparing Paradise in this fourth phase, they will be seated on the seat of Truth on the Day of Judgment near the Almighty King of kings.
