(52) At-twur

With the name of Allah, the Impartial, the Compassionate.

(52) At-twur

This Surath got the name ‘At-Twur’ from the first verse, which starts by swearing by the mountain At-Twur. This Surath contains 49 verses and was revealed during the first period of the Messenger’s Meccan life, together with the 51st Surath. It warns that after receiving Adhikr, those who reject the Day of Judgment will get appropriate punishment in Hellfire for their deeds in this world. It gives the glad tidings to the believers with a luxurious life in Paradise, since they are living here, seeing the Hereafter from Adhikr—the Insight—and are fearing that if they and their family members eat forbidden things in this world, they will be roasted in Hellfire.

This Surath challenges the disbelievers that if they argue that Adhikr—the Speech of Allah—is forged by the Messenger or any believer, then you bring such a one if you can. It also presents so many evidences proving that the Ruler of the heavens and earth is Allah only. This Surath ends commanding the Messenger and believers to live holding fast to Adhikr and to glorify the Lord by praising Him in the night and when the stars are disappearing.
