(As-Swaffaath) 37 : 103
فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُ لِلْجَبِينِ
When they both submitted he laid down him on his face.
“They both submitted” means that by obeying Allah’s command, Ibrahim was ready to sacrifice his son, and Ismael was ready to be sacrificed. They were both prepared to give up the life the Lord had given to Ismael. If Ibrahim had seen Ismael’s face while sacrificing, he would not have been able to do it. That is why Ismael was laid down on his face.
