And when you told to the one upon whom Lord has done favour and you also have done favour: ‘You hold your wife with you, and you heed Allah’, and you hid in your soul what Lord had revealed, and you fear the mankind while Lord is the most deserving to fear to you; thus when Zaid has completed his desire upon her, we made her married to you for not to have any difficulty for the believers to marry the wives of their adopted sons when they completed their desire upon them, and the command of Lord is to become in to practice.
Zaid-the son of Haris-was the slave of Khadeeja. Through the marriage of Muhammed with Khadeeja, Zaid came under the protection of Muhammed. Then Muhammed freed Zaid and accepted them as his adopted son declaring at the Quraishi gathering as ‘Zaidubnu Muhammed’. When Muhammed became a Messenger in his 40th age, Muhammed’s wife Khadeeja, friend Aboobacker, paternal son Ali, and adopted son Zaid were the four persons who accepted Islam and Muhammed as Messenger. After the migration to Madeena from Maccah, Zainab-aunt’s daughter of Muhammed- was married to Zaid. But their marriage was inconsistent from the very beginning itself. As it is told in verse 33: 36 that ‘it is not apt for believing men and believing women to take their own decision concerning any matter if Allah and His Messenger judge a verdict on any matter’, they continued in wedlock unwillingly for one year. After one year Zaid informed his willingness to discontinue the wedlock with Zainab. But Messenger Muhammed prevented him saying that You heed Allah and keep her in your wedlock. By calling the adopted son suffixing to the foster father’s name, they do not become their son, and so they will not become inheritors mutually. On revealing the rule ‘just like it is prohibited to marry the wives of own sons, it is not prohibited to marry the wives of adopted sons if their wedlock is ended’ Lord had informed Messenger that you should marry Zainab-the wife of your adopted son. But since it was against the custom and practice that existed there, the Messenger fearing the response of the people was concealing this matter and was saying to Zaid ‘You hold your wife with you, and you heed Allah’. That is the meaning of ‘you fear mankind, while Lord is the most deserving to fear to you’ mentioned in the verse. The aim behind making this type of marriage by the Three Time Knower Lord to Messenger Muhammed is to teach the believers till the Last Day that they can marry the wives of their adopted sons when their wedlock is ended.
The list of the women with whom marriage is prohibited is explained in verses 4: 23-24. The Fujjar including the hypocrites and their blind followers Fajir who are reading these verses prefer bodily and worldly life forgetting the soul and the Hereafter, and they are following the footsteps of Satan as explained in verses 2: 168-169. It is proven true upon these Mujirims that their Ledger is in Sijjen of the Hell as told in verse 83: 7. Each group of them is reserved to any of the seven doors of the Hell as told in verse 15: 44. See explanation 7: 205-206; 9: 73; 23: 7; 33: 4-5, 21.
