And surely, Lord Allah had fulfilled His promise upon you when you annihilated them with His Permission until you flinched and fell in disputing the Command, you disobeyed after He had shown you the thing what you were loving; among you, there are those who wish this world, and among you, there are those who wish the Hereafter, after that He diverted you against them to test you, and surely He pardoned for you, and Allah is having Bounty upon the believers.
The Messenger and followers had the victory at the beginning of the Battle of Uhud. When the enemies turned back, a fraction of the followers concentrated only on collecting the booty of the war. Well-skilled archers were posted by Messenger on the top of the hill under the leadership of Abdullah-Ibn-Jubair, and they commanded: “You shouldn’t come down even if you are seeing the birds sweeping our heads”. But everyone except five of them came down to collect the booty of war thinking that they will not get it. On this occasion, the enemies killed the remaining archers and surrounded the battlefield. At that time the followers scattered and ran away as well as disputed with each other. A rumor that Messenger has been killed was spread. Thus, they became weak and were about to be defeated. All these events were happened to distinguish the hypocrites and believers among the followers. See explanation 2: 15; 3: 128-129 and 8: 17-19.
