(112) Al-Ikhlas

With the name of Allah, the Impartial, the Compassionate.

(112) Al-Ikhlas

This Surath got the name “Al-Ikhlas (the Sincerity)” since It aims at forming sincere servants of Allah, whom Satan cannot entrap, by understanding Him as the 6,236 verses of Adhikr submit. Apart from other Suras in the Lord’s Book, the name of this Surath is derived from the Message of Its four verses. During the revelation of Adhikr, concepts about Allah existed in different forms among different people. Some ascribed sons, spouses, and lineage to the Lord. Some assumed the sun, moon, and other stars to be gods and goddesses. Some others worshipped fire and natural forces. Others made idols of saintly people, hypocritical leaders, and Sprites, assuming them as sons of the Lord, and Angels as daughters of the Lord, and worshipped them. This Surath was revealed as an answer to questions repeatedly asked of the Messenger: “How is Allah whom you submit?”

The aim of revealing the 6,236 verses of the Lord’s Book is to familiarize mankind with Allah, and the Lord of the universe. Since this Surath fulfils that aim, the Messenger mentioned this small Surath as “one-third of the Lord’s Book.” But today, the Fujjar all over the world, including the Arabs, without following Adhikr—the Best Interpretation of the Lord’s Book—are accepting only the Arabic Qur’an, which is merely the body of the Book and the meaning, which is only Its life. As a result, their concept of the Lord has become more deviated than that of the people before receiving the Lord’s Book. The Messenger used to recite this Surath as vird, proclaiming the Oneness of the Creator, three times after the prayer of Subhi and Magrib, as well as before sleeping at night, and once after other compulsory prayers. Without utilizing Adhikr—the Permission of the Lord—no literate person can become a believer. Such people will not gain virtue by reciting this Surath or any other Surath; rather, they will be driven away from Islam by reciting Suras and will deserve punishment through them.
