With the name of Allah, the Impartial, the Compassionate.
(108) Al-Kausar
This Surah is known as “Al-Kausar (the Abundance)” because of its first verse, which states, “Indeed We have given to you abundantly.” When the Messenger started public propagation of the Lord’s Message at Mecca, oppression from the Meccan pagans increased, and the Messenger and his followers had to face ban and isolation from their people. At the same time, the death of his sons also happened. During that time, this Surah, containing three verses, which is the smallest Surah in the Lord’s Book, was revealed. Through this Surah, Messengers and believers are commanded not to become upset or despair by hearing the allegations of the disbelievers who consider the allurements of this worldly life as the criterion of Truth, and they are also commanded to perform prayer for meeting with the Lord, and to do sacrifice for pleasing the Lord alone.
