With the name of Allah, the Impartial, the Compassionate.
(106) Quraish
This Surah got the name “Quraish (the Quraishees tribe)” from the first verse, “For the Quraishees were tamed.” This Surah was revealed along with Surah Al-Feel (105).
The duty of protecting the Ka'aba was entrusted to the Quraishi tribe, the tribe of the Messenger. They were reconciling different Arab tribes and were taking leadership of various business groups. Moreover, since they were serving the pilgrims by supplying drinking water and other conveniences, they held leadership positions and were respected by others. By utilizing all these favorable conditions, they improved their businesses and achieved financial stability. This Surah, containing 4 verses, ends by reminding them that all the benefits they received are due to the greatness of the House of Allah—Ka'aba—and so they should serve only Allah, who is the Lord of that House and of them, as well as the Lord of all.
