(Al-Lail) 92 : 20
إِلَّا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْأَعْلَىٰ
Except hoping for the Face of his Lord – the Highest.
That means he gives not expecting any reward in return except the pleasure of his Lord. This verse also means that by doing anything for him, none can obtain any undeserved reward from him. As told in verses 76: 8-9, when the virtuous give anything from their wealth to anyone, they expect neither reward nor gratitude in return. Whenever doing anything, they neither seek others’ praise nor fear their opposition. See explanation 87: 14-15.
