They were disputing with you concerning the Truth after It was made clear to them; as if they were being driven to death while they were seeing it.
The weakling believers who participated in the Battle of Bad’r were disputing concerning the booty. When it was ordered for the battle, believers had to accept it pleasantly. But some among them were hating it due to lack of belief as explained in verse 4: 77. They were giving preference to this worldly life than the Hereafter. When they received the booty of the battle, they started disputing. When they realized that they must wait for the revelation of Lord’s Judgment concerning the booty, they disliked it even though they must give preference to Messenger than themselves. While it was commanded to face armed forces than the trade group of enemies, they thought that they are being led to death. But when the command of Lord and Messenger was implemented, it became as calling to life. In verses 33: 18-19 it is told: “Lord Allah already knows the hinderers among you and those who say to their brothers: ‘Come to us’, and they don’t go for battle except a few, indisposed toward you. And when fear comes, you see them looking into you with their eyes seeing the death. But when fear departs, they lash to you with sharp tongues, indisposed towards good. Those are not believed, so Allah has made futile their deeds, and that is very easy for Allah”. See explanations 2: 216 and 243.
