(Al-Mujadila) 58 : 18

The Day Allah will resurrect them altogether, then they will swear to Him just like they swear to you today, while they are thinking that they have something to stand upon; you know, indeed, they are the liars!

It is told in verse 54: 17 that Allah has made this Reading—Adhikr—easy to understand with the heart. But against this teaching, the hypocritical transgressors, to obstruct their followers from Adhikr—the Permission of the Lord to become a believer—are telling them by swearing to the Lord that learning the reading of the Arabic Qur’an and Its meaning is enough, and there is no need to learn the Message of the Lord’s Book—Adhikr. For this, they are saying: "The Prophet has taught that pronouncing even a letter ‘Alif’ from the Arabic Qur’an will cause one to get ten rewards from Allah." Through this verse, Allah is revealing the false assumption in the hypocrite’s mind—that they are in an illusion that on the Day of Judgment they can escape from the punishment of Allah by saying to Him, "We had not told them you needn’t learn Its Message, but we had only told them that you first learn the meaning of the verses, then only you learn Its Message." Thus, Allah reveals the original character of hypocrites to mankind so as not to be trapped by them. As explained in verses 2: 174-175, Allah won’t speak to them or purify them who will go to Hell even without Trial. See explanation 47: 29-30; 63: 1-2; and 98: 6.
