Then the groups among them fell into schism; so those who became wrongdoers will have the punishment of a painful Day.
As explained in verses 4: 157-158, Almighty Allah raised Jesus bodily into the second heaven by a whirlwind, and Allah transformed the face of Sarjas—one of the Hawariyyeen (Apostles)—to resemble the face of Jesus. Thus, Roman soldiers seized Sarjas and crucified him, misunderstanding that he was Jesus. The remaining twelve disciples were shaken by the situation—people’s disbelief; the mockery and spying of Jewish priests; the partiality of Roman rulers, etc.—so they could not explain to the people that Jesus was raised by the Lord of the worlds. Afterwards, they could not remain together in one place; they disintegrated, and they continued preaching individually in different places. Meanwhile, Paul—one of the Jews who opposed Jesus—came as a self-declared “apostle” and began preaching a new belief system, with the support and permission of Jews and Roman rulers, against the teaching of Jesus. Thus, they became different groups and gradually deviated from the Straightpath. Read together 3: 35 and 52-55.
As explained in verses 16: 44 and 64, not only regarding Jesus but regarding any matter in which mankind differs, Messenger Muhammad was deputed with Adhikr after Jesus to decide. The Fujjar who read these verses in the Arabic Quran are hiding and rejecting Adhikr—the Best Interpretation of the Lord’s Book, as told in verse 25: 33. So they are mentioned as the worst among a thousand creatures of the Lord who do not utilize their intelligence and who are to be dragged prone on their faces into Hell, as told in verses 8: 22 and 25: 34. It is told in verse 83: 29 that the Fujjar—who are the Mujirims—will ridicule the believer in this world. The scene of arguing, quarreling, and cursing among hypocritical disbelievers and their blind followers from Hell is explained in verses 2: 165-167. See explanation 2: 62; 11: 17; 39: 22, 32; and 40: 30-31.
