He said: "Nay, that will be done by the biggest among them, so you ask them if they are reflecting".
Idols are lifeless, that is why it is said “reflecting” instead of “talking”. It is told in verse 41: 20-21: “On the Day of Judgment, the ears, eyes, and skins of Fujjar will witness against them. They will ask their skin: ‘Why are you witnessing against us’; the skin will reply: ‘The Lord who gave the power of reflection for everything has given us the power for reflection. He is the One Who created you from nothingness and unto Him is you all will be returned’”. It is told in verses 45: 28-29: “On the Day of Judgment when every community will be assembled on their knees before Lord for Trial, Lord will say: ‘This is our Record which reflects about you in Truth, We had recorded whatever you had done’”.
