(Al-Baqara) 2 : 236
لَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِنْ طَلَّقْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ مَا لَمْ تَمَسُّوهُنَّ أَوْ تَفْرِضُوا لَهُنَّ فَرِيضَةً ۚ وَمَتِّعُوهُنَّ عَلَى الْمُوسِعِ قَدَرُهُ وَعَلَى الْمُقْتِرِ قَدَرُهُ مَتَاعًا بِالْمَعْرُوفِ ۖ حَقًّا عَلَى الْمُحْسِنِينَ

There is no blame upon you if you are divorcing women with whom you have never intercourse or the prescribed dowry is not settled; you provide them sustenance, the wealthy according to his means and the poor according to his means, a reasonable amount with Justice, a duty upon the one who is living by seeing Lord.

Before settling the prescribed dowry and before having intercourse with a woman, one can divorce the woman for a reasonable cause. But he should give them sustenance with justice according to his means. It is compensation for the women losing their status in marriage.

As Adhikr is codified today, one can be a Muhsin by testifying the Best Book Adhikr. And any of the Fujjar, if didn’t testify to Adhikr, at the time of his death Lord, will tell him that he was among the disbelievers as told in verse 39: 59. See explanation 16: 97.
